WBC Minimumweight Champion Wanheng Menayothin Looking For 50-0 Record In Next Fight

Floyd Mayweather Jr. became boxing's sole member of the 50-0 club in the sport in 2017, retiring last year with a record that many thought would be unchallenged, but that could change in May.

WBC minimumweight champion Wanheng Menayothin, who holds a 49-0 professional record and tied with former heavyweight champion Rocky Marciano's career record, has his next title defense set. Menayothin will face mandatory challenger and WBC No. 1 Leroy Estrada on May 2 in Thailand.

Should Menayothin win, he'll be the third man in boxing to reach 50-0 in his boxing career, joining Mayweather and Julio Cesar Chavez. Only Mayweather retired having never lost a boxing match in the pro ranks among those boxers, reaching the 50-0 mark when he defeated Conor McGregor last year. Other boxers, such as Ricardo Lopez and Jimmy Barry, ended their careers with no losses and had more fights than Mayweather, but Lopez and Barry have draws on their record.

Menayothin started his career in 2007, quickly ascending the ranks in boxing's lightest weight class. Menayothin won the WBC Youth title in just his third fight. Menayothin successfully defended his title eight times before later winning the WBC International title.

It wasn't until 2014 when he got his first shot at a world title. He defeated Oswaldo Novoa to win the WBC world title and has defended the title eight times. Menayothin last retained the title in December, defeating Tatsuya Fukuhara by unanimous decision.

Estrada, a former WBC Latino and Silver minimuweight champion, has won his last four fights with his last coming taking place in May 2017, his only fight taking place last year.
