Floyd Mayweather Says He’s Applying For MMA License

Floyd Mayweather has been teasing a jump from boxing to MMA for quite some time now and now another step is about to be taken to make the tease into a reality.

The retired boxer said to TMZ Sports that he is going to be applying for an MMA license soon.

“Not yet but everything takes time,” Mayweather said. “Eventually we’re gonna apply for the license and hopefully we can fight."

Mayweather would arguably become the highest profile boxer to ever make the jump from that sport into mixed martial arts.

One thing Mayweather wants to ensure goes right is the training for a potential MMA debut, even if that training takes longer than expected. Mayweather is going to be getting a lot of good training for that potential run in MMA, as UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley says the boxing great has already spoken with him about a training camp

“I’ll probably need a little bit longer [than three months to train]. A Little bit longer, even if it takes six to eight months. Whatever it takes. We want to make sure that everything is done correctly and everything is done the right way,” says Mayweather.

UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor did suffer a tenth round TKO loss to Mayweather this past August, so the Irishman would make a suitable opponent if the boxing great does come over to the UFC.
