Randa Markos Talks Knee Injury, What’s Next & Open To Pro-Wrestling
Randa Markos just picked up a huge victory at UFC On Fox 27, defeating Juliana Lima by way of unanimous decision.
The win wasn’t an easy one to achieve for Markos, who had dealt with a serious knee injury before the encounter.
“Well, I had a game plan til about four weeks before the fight and I got injured…bad knee injury. Everything changed and it was just like survival mode, I just started doing physiotherapy every morning and hoped for the best. Worked more on wall work because I couldn’t do much jiu-jitsu because of my knee, when I went to wrestling, I worked more on how to get off the cage and keep the person on the cage. I worked on my striking a lot, so I couldn’t wrestle very much or pull out wrestle. I couldn’t shoot…I couldn’t grapple, so everything kind of changed. I partly tore my MCL, fully tore my patella. I did what I could, you know,” Markos said in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.
Despite suffering the knee injury, a confident Markos also told James Lynch that she wants to compete again by June.
Former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey recently jumped into pro wrestling, but Markos doesn’t have the same kind of passion for that sport that Rousey has.
“For a short period of time, I did watch it. I watched the old school WWE…Rikishi and those people, that’s when I watched for a short period of time and then I stopped watching it…When you start doing MMA, you start to realize how real MMA and how staged that stuff (pro wrestling) is. It kind of gets boring after awhile,” says Markos.
If Markos does get her wish to return to action this June, it would means she could compete at either UFC Fight Night Utica and UFC 2225, which are the only UFC events officially announced for that time period.
