Brian Cage Explains Becoming The “Swolverine”
Brian Cage was not always so big.
In an interview with AMBY, Brian Cage shared how he turned himself from a 150 pound teenager into the gigantic 265-plus pound professional wrestler he has become. Cage said he started his journey when he graduated high school.
"I always wanted to be a wrestler since I was ten, wrestling my friends and backyard wrestling," said Cage. "When I graduated high school I was like '(150 pounds) is probably not going to cut the mustard if I want to go pursue this as an actual thing' which I fully intended to do. My P.E. teacher knew how determined I was to become a wrestler. He's like 'hey, I'm teaching summer school, I'll unlock the weight room for you,'" he continued.
Cage worked out that summer and grew some but eventually hit a plateau until someone corrected his diet and he began to seriously change his body in 2002. Cage also mentioned how his nickname "Swolverine" was created.
"The Swolverine moniker, everyone used to call me 'Wolverine' or whatever which is awesome because I love Wolverine. But playing up a heel role I was like 'Hugh Jackman wishes his arms were this big' and somebody one time was like 'that's right, because you're the Swolverine,'" said Cage.
Recently, Cage had a child with Lucha Underground announcer Melissa Santos and claimed he tried to name his daughter after another Marvel character X-23 but he does have Swolverine merchandise which features his daughter as "Sky-23."
