Darren Young Comments On His Release From WWE, Says He Wants To Pave A Way For Others To Live An Honest Life, More
Darren Young is looking to set up his future inside and outside of the ring.
On October 28th, 2017, Darren Young partook in media activities on behalf of the WWE. The next day on the 29th, he was released from his contract. Young was an ambassador of sorts for the WWE by way of proudly revealing that he was gay during an interview in 2013. Fast forward five years later and Darren Young has a new mindset with a fresh stack of goals following his release from the sports-entertainment company.
“It was a little rough and it happened right before my birthday. It was rough, but nothing lasts forever.” Young told Outsports.com.
Young stated that up until that interview in 2013, he had been living inside of a shell and hiding who he truly was.
“I lived my life for 30 years not being myself,” Young said. “Now that I’m able to be myself, I want people to see me on TV or in person and look at me and say, ‘If he can do it then I can do it.’”
Darren Young has been quoted in numerous interviews where he mentioned the names of former WWE Champions like CM Punk, Randy Orton & The Big Show being very supportive of him in the locker room when he first came out to the public.
“I was fearful they wouldn’t support me, but these were guys who really had my back."
WWE has provided the former WWE Tag Team Champion with a platform to further spread his message. Later on today, he will be wrestling for the WrestlePro promotion where he will be taking on Fallah Bahh. While doing so, Young will be spreading his message of equality as he looks to create a platform for others who are in the same situation that he was once in.
“My fight is much bigger than in the ring. It’s fighting bigotry and hatred. I want to be remembered for being a good human being and someone who paved a way for others to live an honest life.”
