John Cena Reminisces On His Past WrestleMania Experiences And Goes Over His Current Storyline About Not Having An Opponent For Mania’

"Big Match John" is serious when he says that he may not have a spot on the WrestleMania 34 card.

Former 16-time WWE World Champion John Cena was recently interviewed by Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated. During the interview, Cena would go over a number of topics including: working with Nickelodeon on a greater scale, a potential match with Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania and more.

There were reports that surfaced last week by way of Justin Barrasso that claimed that a match between John Cena & Rey Mysterio was in the works. Cena was asked about the potential match and while he did not give a direct answer, he gave big props to "The Master Of The 619".

“Rey Mysterio is great,” said Cena. “I’ll say that and that’s what I can say about Rey.”

The former 5-time WWE United States Champion has been a part of every WrestleMania since WrestleMania 20. At the 32nd Mania', Cena was dealing with an injury at the time but still made an appearance and came to the aid of his former rival The Rock. Cena would go on to reflect on his career on "The Grandest Stage Of Them All".

"I have never asked for a WrestleMania opponent. If you look at what I’ve done in my WrestleMania entirety, from coming out at Safeco Field in a sweat suit rapping to two cardboard cutouts, to working with established superstars to working with rookies, to being fortunate enough to use the platform to ask a beautiful young lady to marry me." Cena, continued  "A lot of our performers get frustrated and ask, ‘What can you do for me?’ I just ask, ‘What can I do for you?’ They tell me, and I do it to the best of my ability. Even if it’s no one.”

As noted, "Big Match John" has not missed a WrestleMania in 13 years. The current storyline that he is involved in is based around him not being able to win the big one to secure him a spot in New Orleans. There are no sour grapes on Cena's end though, as he sees the greater story that could be ahead if this continues.

“What a great story it would be for me to miss and have to buy a ticket. The year doesn’t stop at WrestleMania. We do RAW the next night. Now imagine if this stalwart, this statue of the WWE now has to look inside himself and ask, ‘Do I still have it?’ after being left out of the biggest show of the year. Don’t put this past Vince. Vince is extremely smart, and the reason he is so successful is his ability to see beyond what is immediately in front of him. A two-year or a three-year play would be smart.”

John Cena would also discuss Rob Gronkowski possibly coming into the company, along with working side projects while still being an active member of the WWE roster. To read more of Cena's comments, click here.
