Oliver Enkamp Talks Danny Roberts Matchup, Layoff & UFC Performance Institute
Oliver Enkamp returns to the Octagon for the first time in almost a year at UFC Fight Night London and his opponent at the show is going to be Danny Roberts.
The competitor took some time off to properly deal with a weight issue and he would go to the UFC Performance Institute for some help.
“Last time I fought (UFC Fight Night 109), I was up (in) weight by ten pounds. I’ve always been like this fighter in between two weight classes, so I was at the beginning…trying to fight like at lightweight. I did all these catchweight fights in between, but eventually and with the years, I was growing. I decided to fight at welterweight instead because I’m not a fan of the big weight cuts, so to get some help with adding the mass to my frame, I went to the UFC Performance Institute after my last fight. They helped me with a training program to add on the right type of muscle because I don’t just want mass, I want quality. Muscle is not something you can build overnight obviously, its a process that takes time. So I really took this time off to rebuild my body and make it more powerful and stronger. Now I’m more like an average welterweight like the other competitors,” Enkamp said in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.
Enkamp is making his UFC Welterweight Division debut in this encounter, while his upcoming opponent in Roberts has spent some time in the division.
Despite the long layoff, a focused Enkamp would like less time in between fights in the future, especially in the UFC is coming close to home this summer.
“So everything obviously depends on how it goes on March 17, but I heard rumors that the UFC is coming to Denmark this summer. That would be a great next fight because that’s close to Sweden, a lot of fans and supporters could go over there an cheer me on,” says Enkamp.
UFC Fight Night London takes place on Saturday, March 17 from the 02 Arena in London, England with Fabricio Werdum and Alexander Volkov headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on UFC Fight Pass.
