Demetrious Johnson Says Negotiations Have Begun For Super Fight With TJ Dillashaw

It would appear that the long anticipated super fight between UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson and UFC Bantamweight Champion TJ Dillashaw could soon be coming our way.

The UFC Flyweight Champion recently revealed that negotiations have begun for the super fight, as Fightful mentioned Saturday night in one of our fight-size updates.

“We’re in negotiations [to co-headline UFC 226],” Johnson said during a live stream on Twitch. “Once my main man gets in here I’ll have him update all of the commands, that way when people come in here and ask about T.J. Dillashaw and Demetrious Johnson fighting each other, you guys know negotiations have begun. They have begun.”

If the bout does take place at UFC 226, it would be the second champion versus champion bout on the card, because UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic is defending the gold against UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier in the main event.

Johnson also states that the one reason he has been labeled as the G.O.A.T. is due to the longevity of the flyweight champions title reign.

“The reason I have that label is my longevity as a champion and dominating higher competition. His fight against Cody wasn’t a blowout, they exchanged and his punch landed. It wasn’t like he dominated him in wrestling or jiu-jitsu. That’s my personal opinion,” says Johnson.

UFC 226 takes place on Saturday, July 7 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
