Marcus Browne On Fighting Top Boxers At 175 Pounds: “I’m Just Ready”
Undefeated light heavyweight Marcus Browne is on the verge of fighting for a title and he and his promoter believe so.
In a conference call Fightful took part in, Browne talked about wanting to have big fights in the future, potentially against world champions in 2018. With Browne being ranked in the top 7 in the WBA, WBO, WBC and IBF rankings, Browne is not too picky about his selection of opponents.
“No, no one guy more than the other. I’m just ready and willing and waiting my turn for whoever gives me the chance at fighting. And I have no picks. I ain’t got no favorites right now. It is what it is. I’m at the point where you either eat or get ate, and I’m ready to eat,” Browne said.
In regards to fighters such as WBC champion Adonis Stevenson and former WBA champion Badou Jack, Browne believes neither of those boxers can beat him.
“I don’t see any of them beating me personally. Speak to me after January 20. Then we’ll talk about it more. We can elaborate on it more, but at this point I’m focused on Francy. Those guys are definitely in my sights and I don’t really see nothing crazy impressive,” Browne said.
Promoter Lou DiBella, who also took part in the conference call, chimed in and talked up Browne’s skills. DiBella, who has been instrumental in having Browne fight at the Barclays Center more than a dozen times, thinks the unbeaten light heavyweight is primed to have the biggest year of his career.
“Marcus is one of the elite prospects in the division. But he’s past the point of prospects. He’s really at the point of contender right now just waiting for the biggest fight out there to materialize. There’s some big light heavyweight fights on the horizon. Some of them I think will be announced fairly soon. I think in 2018 Marcus is going to get that huge opportunity. He deserves it because he’s really in that handful of top guys,” DiBella said.
Browne will be a part of the January 20 Showtime boxing card at the Barclays Center. He’ll be fighting Francy Ntetu on the undercard, which will be streamed live on Showtime’s YouTube channel and Facebook page. Browne briefly held the WBC United States (USNBC) light heavyweight title in 2016 when he beat Radivoje Kalajdzic via split decision. Browne was actually in line to fight in an IBF light heavyweight title eliminator against Igor Mikhalkin until Mikhalkin accepted a fight against WBO champion Sergey Kovalev, set to take place on March 3 at Madison Square Garden.
