Khabib Nuramgomedov May Drop To Featherweight
Khabib Nurmagomedov is set to face fellow top five ranked lightweight Edson Barboza in the co-main event of UFC 219.
The fighter has been thinking a lot about the future of his career and an upcoming move could see a drop in weight class.
“I am already on weight,” Nurmagomedov said at the UFC 219 media day. “I have a couple pounds [to lose]. We’re thinking about 145 now. We’ll see about this, but, first of all I’m going to fight this fight and beat Edson Barboza, and I’m going to fight with [interim champion] Tony Ferguson, and after I’m thinking about going to 145.”
Nurmagomedov has never competed at featherweight before, primarily spending his professional MMA career at lightweight.
One thing Nurmagomedov wants to do before making a change in divisions is to see how he fares at the UFC 219 weigh-ins.
“I want to watch how I do tomorrow, then I will make weight, and we’ll see how I feel,” he said. “I’m going to watch how I feel and I’m going to make weight.”
UFC 219 takes place on Saturday, December 30 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Cyborg and Holly Holm headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
