Dana White Doesn’t Think Georges St. Pierre Wants To Fight
Georges St. Pierre returned after a four-plus year hiatus to defeat Michael Bisping and win the UFC Middleweight Title in the main event of UFC 217.
The fighter has since relinquished the gold due to ulcerative colitis and UFC President Dana White doesn’t think he even wants to fight anymore.
"There is no status," White told ESPN. "I knew what he was doing. That's why I put [a mandatory title defense] into his contract. We both knew what was going on. I don't know, man. I don't think the guy wants to fight. I think he jumped in, grabbed some cash and went back to Canada."
GSP has been silent on his future, but coach Firas Zahabi recently stated that a potential super fight between GSP and UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor would be the biggest drawing bout in MMA history.
Despite the potential for the super fight’s drawing power, it is a bout that will never happen according to the UFC President.
"He ain't fighting Conor McGregor," White said. "If he wants to come back, [UFC welterweight champion] Tyron Woodley or [middleweight champion] Robert Whittaker is waiting for him. They're both waiting, if Georges wants to come back."
Since GSP relinquished the title, interim middleweight champion Robert Whittaker became the undisputed UFC Middleweight Champion.
