Chris Estell Recalls Making A Referee Turtleneck For Christian Cage, ‘He Wore It Like A Champ’
Chris Estell recalls making a turtleneck referee shirt for Christian Cage.
On the August 10 edition of AEW Collision, Christian Cage served as the special guest referee for a bout between House Of Black (Malakai Black, Brody King, & Buddy Matthews) and the Bang Bang Gang (Austin Gunn, Colten Gunn & Juice Robinson). The match ended in a double knockout, allowing both teams to become two of the teams that would go on to challenge The Patriarchy for the AEW World Trios Championships at AEW All In.
During the match, Christian Cage wore a special turtleneck referee shirt. Of course, this got a big reaction online, as many fans turned Cage’s outfit into a meme.
On the latest edition of the AEW Unrestricted podcast, AEW’s Head Of Wardrobe, Chris Estell, recalled making the shirt for Cage.
“That idea was Christian’s idea. He said, ‘Can you make me a ref shirt?’ The biggest compliment from him was that it turned out better than I ever thought it would. I believe that when a talent compliments you like that and you exceed their expectations, it only solidifies that you belong there. So, that was the most atrocious shirt that I’ve ever made and he wore it like a champ.”
