Bill Simmons: Evel Knievel Story Was The Best Thing From ‘Mr. McMahon’ That Ended Up On The Cutting Room Floor

Bill Simmons and David Shoemaker discuss Netflix’s ‘Mr. McMahon’.

The six part docuseries about McMahon premiered on Wednesday, September 25. The world of wrestling has been very vocal about the series, with many fans saying that it’s one of the better wrestling documentaries to ever be produced.

On the latest edition of The Bill Simmons Podcast, Simmons and David Shoemaker talked about the best segment of the series that ended up on the cutting room floor.

Simmons: For me, it was the whole Evel Knievel story that we had to take out.

Shoemaker: Oh, god, that was so good.

Simmons: I thought that was so good. I’m gonna try to to see if Chris [Smith] can put that as a deleted scene or something. We had a bunch of stuff from Vince in the 72-76 range that, just for the story, sometimes you have to cut stuff because it’s just better for the way the narrative moves. But you’re like, oh man, I don’t want to lose that. But we lost it.

Shoemaker: That Evel Knievel bit, oh my gosh. It was so great. But there’s a lot of that stuff.

Elsewhere in the interview, Simmons said that ‘Mr. McMahon’ was the strangest documentary process he’s ever been involved in. Learn more about those comments here.
