Undertaker Isn’t Sure He’d Have A 30-Year WWE Career Without The Creation Of Kane

Undertaker believes he owes a good chunk of his longevity in WWE to the creation of the Kane character.

Shortly after his debut at the 1990 WWE Survivor Series, The Undertaker was given the first name of “Kane.” Fortunately for everyone involved and WWE fans through the years, the name Kane would be dropped from Undertaker’s persona and eventually reused in 1997 for the reveal of Undertaker’s brother, who had been presumed to have burned to death in a fire but was actually alive.

The Undertaker would continue to wrestle for over twenty years following Kane’s debut. Kane even managed to enter the WWE Hall of Fame before his on-screen brother. Now, Undertaker is evaluating what his career would have looked like without that storyline and the roller coaster relationship of the Brothers of Destruction.

“There’s a huge part of my career, if he’s not there, that just doesn’t happen. There was a lot of things that led out of us working at different times, to work into different programs and different angles. I mean, it’s not just the angles and the times that we were working against each other, but then, too, it allowed me to grow as a character because it gave me something that I could relate to. Someone that I could relate to. I mean, ‘that’s my flesh and blood’ kind of a deal. It was the only way that really worked in making me vulnerable in any way,” said Undertaker in a Patreon exclusive Q&A with both he and Glenn “Kane” Jacobs. “I learned a lot in working with him, [including] how to make myself more vulnerable moving forward. Without Kane, I’m a killer until I’m used up. I don’t know that I go for 30 years without that story.”

Undertaker has recently stated that if he were to start a promotion today, Kane would be one of the first people he hired. Read his comments here
