Mark Cuban Says Vince McMahon Isn’t Worried About New Japan, Looks To Expand New Japan/AXS Relationship in 2018

Mark Cuban has big plans for New Japan on AXS

The owner of the Dallas Mavericks — as well as the chairman of AXS TV — spoke to Sports Illustrated about New Japan's position in the network. Things are going good, as Cuban says the network will be expanding the show.

“We’re looking to expand it on Friday nights” Cuban said. “We want to do more live, as opposed to the delay, and we’re talking to them about special events.”

But while New Japan seems to be gaining a footing on their network, Cuban realizes that Vince McMahon probably doesn't care that New Japan is getting so much attention on their network, nor do they see them as a threat.

“No, he thinks we’re just little sh—” said Cuban. “We’re not a threat because of the language. That’s the biggest challenge, the language. But if you’re a purist for wrestling, and you like the action, it’s the best promotion by far. People here aren’t going to connect as directly, but if you really love wrestling, then it’s a no-brainer.”

Even Cuban himself, who is a fan of pro wrestling, says he checks out the product, as he likes Jim Ross on commentary.

“I even tune in to check out Jim” said Cuban. “I can’t say I’m hardcore, but the show is more focused on the wrestling–that’s the glitz–than what you get anywhere else. The talent quality is equal to any of the other promotions, without question.”

Cuban is best remembered in the pro wrestling world for an angle on Raw where Sheamus put him through a table.
