UFC Interim Champion Tony Ferguson Undergoes Elbow Surgery

UFC Interim Lightweight Champion Tony Ferguson was last seen in the Octagon earning a third round submission win over Kevin Lee at UFC 216 to win the gold.

With no fights signed or looming at the moment, the interim lightweight champion had decided to undergo elbow surgery.

Christina Ferguson, the wife of the champion, posted the following on Instagram:

There is no timetable at the moment as to when Ferguson will return to action or even what caused the fighter to have the surgery done.

Ferguson would be next in line to fight UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor, but the Irishman hasn’t been seen in action since defeating Eddie Alvarez to win the gold at UFC 205.

The UFC Interim Lightweight Champion has a professional MMA record of 23-3-0, with notable wins over Joe Schilling, Brock Jardine, Ramsey Nijem, Yves Edwards, Danny Castillo, Abel Trujillo, Gleison Tibau, Josh Thomson, Edson Barboza, Rafael Dos Anjos and the aforementioned Kevin Lee.

Besides being the interim lightweight champion, the fighter is also in the midst of a ten bout winning streak and he hasn’t suffered a defeat in over five years.
