Former UFC Champion Moves To Middleweight For UFC’s New York Debut

A fighter will make his return to the UFC, while another looks to rejuvenate his career.

According to FloCombat, former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Rashad Evans will make his middleweight debut against Tim Kennedy at UFC’s Madison Square Garden debut for UFC 205.

Evans, the #7-ranked Light Heavyweight, has had a tough go of things at 205 pounds, as his only wins over current UFC roster members are those competing at middleweight. Evans hasn’t won since a UFC 167 TKO of Chael Sonnen. Evans does hold wins over current Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping, and former champions Tito Ortiz, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Chuck Liddell, Forrest Griffin and others.

Kennedy has been away from the sport for two years after a controversial loss to Yoel Romero at UFC 178. The #12-ranked middleweight Kennedy almost finished Romero in the closing seconds of round two, and in between rounds, there was a 28-second delay before the third round. Despite having won four fights in a row prior, Kennedy seemed jaded by the sport after the TKO loss to Romero.

UFC 205 takes place in November at Madison Square Garden in New York, New York.
