Josh Emmett Stepping In At UFC On Fox 26, Facing Ricardo Lamas
Ricardo Lamas was left without an opponent after former UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo agreed to step in on short notice to fight featherweight champion Max Holloway at UFC 218.
However, the fighter now has an opponent because MMA NYTT is reporting that Josh Emmett has agreed to face Lamas on short notice.
Lamas (18-5-0) enters the fight on the strength of a two bout winning streak, defeating Charles Oliveira and Jason Knight. Lamas has previously challenged for the UFC Featherweight Title, losing to then champion Jose Aldo by decision at UFC 169. Lamas has suffered three defeats in the UFC, those three defeats either came to past/current UFC Featherweight Champions and those who have challenged for the belt.
Emmett (12-1-0) has won three of four under the UFC banner, defeating Felipe Arantes, Scott Holtzman and Jon Tuck. Emmett is also a former West Coast Fighting Championship Featherweight Champion, defeating Brandon Ricetti to win the gold in 2014. Emmett has seen all four of his bouts in the UFC go the distance and it has been almost two years since the last time the fighter got a finish.
UFC On Fox 26 takes place on Saturday, December 16 from the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada with Robbie Lawler and Rafael Dos Anjos headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on Fox.
