Ben Askren Wins Retirement Fight, Wants Fight With GSP

One Championship Welterweight Champion Ben Askren just competed in his retirement fight this past weekend, defeating Shinya Aoki in less than a minute at One Championship 65.

If there is something that may draw the undefeated fighter out of retirement, it could be a fight with UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre.

Askren recently took to Twitter to see if the UFC fighter would like to test his skills:

GSP recently returned after a four year hiatus to defeat Michael Bisping in the main event of UFC 217 to become the UFC Middleweight Champion.

The One Championship Welterweight Champion knows he can’t call himself the best fighter in the world, which is one reason why he may want to battle GSP.

“My career is enigmatic, for sure,” Askren told ESPN. “There are people who just don’t like me and say I suck, but there’s no way you can say decisively I wasn’t the best in the world. I’m in a weird place for most people. They don’t really know where to put me. I haven’t been given the chance to prove it, and MMA is a crazy sport, but I think I’ve been the best welterweight in the world since about 2012.”

While he has yet to respond from the potential challenge from Askren, the UFC Middleweight Champion is currently pondering his future in the sport at the moment.
