Cody Garbrandt says he’ll cause Dominick Cruz’s jaw to be wired shut

After Cody Garbrandt knocked out Thomas Almeida at UFC Fight Night 88 in May, it netted him one inch closer to a bantamweight title shot. After Cruz dispatched Garbrandt’s teammate, Urijah Faber at UFC 199, the champion shifted his focus to Garbrandt.

They started to plant the seeds days before UFC 199 when Cruz said on Twitter that Garbrandt and Faber should fight and it hasn’t stopped ever since.

Cruz was on MMAJunkie Radio recently and said he thinks fans are interested in seeing the fight and said he would add to Garbrandt’s history of concussions.

“I think people want to see it because he’s knocking people out, and I’ll give him that,”Cruz said on the radio show. “But the good thing for me about that matchup is he’s had a lot of concussions, he knows it. He had to pull himself out (of fights). I could just add to the list of concussions he’s had and it would be a great night for me I think.”

When Garbrandt heard of Cruz’s proclamation, the 24-year-old got fired up.

“He said he’s going to add to my concussion list,” Garbrandt said on MMA Junkie Radio via Bloody Elbow. “That says to me like he’s going to try to go in there and kill me. He wants to do that, so I’m definitely going to make him eat every one of his words. He’s going to be eating through a straw for a couple of months after we fight.”

“You better hope that FOX keeps you with a job because I’m going to wire your jaw shut.”

Before Garbrandt can do that, he returns to the octagon at Saturday’s UFC 202 when he battles Takeya Mizugaki. A win and Garbrandt puts himself in a great position to get his hands on Cruz.
