Tim Storm Wasn’t Sure if He’d Be NWA Champion When Billy Corgan Took Over

At this weekend's NWA television tapings, 52-year old Tim Storm will defend his NWA World Championship against former TNA and GFW Champion Nick Aldis.

Since Billy Corgan and Dave Lagana took over NWA Wrestling, their visibility has reached possibly its highest point in over a decade. The champion has been subject of that, appearing on the "Ten Pounds of Gold" series. Despite that, Storm admits that the contact between he and his bosses is all business.

"I know very little, truthfully. In a way I kind of admire that because they don't want to make a commitment that they're not going to follow through on. That's the whole purpose of Billy Corgan's 20-year plan. So, along those lines, I haven't been told a month or a year [about the length of the title reign]," said Storm in an interview with Rolling Stone.

Many expected Storm to lose his championship almost immediately, as 52-year old world champions are a rarity in Wrestling. Storm said that upon hearing the news that he wasn't sure how everything would pan out.

"I didn't know what was going to happen. Obviously, it couldn't have worked out any better. At 53 years old, what other opportunity was I going to have to be thrust into the mainstream media of any kind and be looked at fairly positive?," Storm said.

Fightful.com will have a report of the championship match this weekend. You can see Storm's full interview with Rolling Stone at this link.
