Holm’s Agent Calls UFC 219 Fight Dead, Cyborg’s Rep Says Holm Priced Herself Out
Although nothing was ever made official, the longtime rumored main event for the upcoming UFC 219 was going to be UFC Women’s Featherweight Champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino defending against former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Holly Holm.
Lenny Fresquez is the longtime agent for Holm and he says that they couldn’t come to terms financially with the UFC for the fight.
“Holly was anxiously awaiting the Dec. 30 fight with Cyborg,” Fresquez said to MMA Fighting. “…and had been training for it. But we could not come to financial terms for this featherweight title bout in December. We look forward to meeting her under the right circumstances.”
Cyborg had been asking for the fight for quite some time now and it would have been the first time she would’ve defended the belt since winning it at UFC 214.
George Prajin is the representative for Cyborg and he claims that Holm purposely priced herself out of the fight.
“The big fights are the ones you want as a fighter,” Prajin told MMA Junkie. “Those lead to the most money. I can’t speak for her camp. All I can say is that Cris has agreed to the fight. I would assume Holly doesn’t want to fight Cris. Holly is pricing herself out of the fight because she doesn’t want to fight her.”
There are less than two months before UFC 219 and there is still no main event for the final UFC card of 2017.
