Jessica Andrade Wants To Get Joanna Jedrzejczyk Out Of The Division
Jessica Andrade has fought for the UFC Women’s Strawweight Title before and she suffered a decision loss to current champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 211 in her effort.
The one-time title challenger wants to get another shot at the gold and to eliminate that champion from the division forever.
“I'll kick Joanna out of the division,” Andrade said to MMA Fighting. “What happens next depends on how the fight goes. If she loses by knockout or submission, in a way that doesn’t grant her a rematch, I’m sure she moves up and doesn’t try (fighting me) again. But she’s cocky, stubborn, so it depends on her mood that day. My goal is to get that belt and force her to go to 125.”
Jedrzejczyk defends the belt this coming Saturday nght against Rose Namajunas, who is ranked #4 in the division.
Andrade is predicting that the champion will retain at UFC 217 and then the next title opportunity will go right back to her.
"I think the UFC will hold me to fight Joanna next because they don’t have anyone else left to fight her. With her beating Namajunas, that’s what they will likely do,” Andrade said. “Joanna wants to move up to 125, but wants to beat Ronda’s record first, so who knows if I’ll be that fight, right? If the UFC gives me this opportunity, I’ll train even better to bring this belt to Brazil. I want to fight her before she moves up in weight."
It was at UFC Fight Night Japan where we last saw Andrade in action and she handed Claudia Gadelha a decision loss on that night.
