BJ Penn’s UFC Return Targeted For October

BJ Penn is still trying to return to the cage, and he’s hoping a third try is the charm.

According to MMA Fighting, the UFC is targeting BJ Penn’s return fight for UFC Fight Night 97 in Manila, Philippines in October. The planned opponent is said to be former featherweight title challenger Ricardo Lamas, with the fight planned for 145 pounds.

Penn  (16-10-2) had announced his return earlier this year, but had his comeback postponed three different times. Penn was suspended for six months after admitting to using a banned IV, and will finish his suspension September 25. Penn was also set to face Dennis Siver and Cole Miller, but both fight were canceled.

Lamas (16-5) last fought to a unanimous decision loss with the surging Max Holloway. Lamas competed for the UFC featherweight title in 2014 at UFC 169, losing a unanimous decision to then-champion Jose Aldo.

UFC Fight Night 97 will take place October 15 from the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines.
