The Iron Sheik Tweets High Praise For Kevin Owens And Sami Zayn
Sami Zayn shocked the wrestling world when he saved Kevin Owens in his match against Shane McMahon at WWE Hell in a Cell. The best friends turned bitter enemies appear to be best friends again, much to the delight of a former WWF heavyweight champion.
Being called the new Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff by the Sheik himself is high praise. Sheik was one of the biggest heels in wrestling for the better part of the 1980s. He and Volkoff were a dastardly duo during the Rock N’ Wrestling era, constantly antagonizing the American crowds by pumping up Iran and Russia. Sheik and Volkoff’s biggest accomplishment as a team was their WWF tag team title victory over The U.S. Express at the inaugural WrestleMania.
While it’s unlikely that we’ll see Owens and Zayn singing the Canadian national anthem prior to every match, the possible alignment of the two should generate easy conflict between them and the rest of the SmackDown Live roster.
Former United States champion AJ Styles has already offered his services in helping Shane McMahon battle Owens and Zayn.
Even though Sheik and Volkoff aren’t remembered as a great tag team by most fans, Sheiky baby likely views himself and his comrade as “the real” and the greatest tag team of all-time. So, by calling Owens and Zayn, “the new Sheik and Volkoff,” he’s bestowing on them the highest praise he can.
All the other jabronis on the SmackDown roster will just have to deal with it.
