Demetrious Johnson Says Sergio Pettis – Henry Cejudo Winner Next
UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson is preparing to defend the gold against Ray Borg this weekend at UFC 216.
If he is successful in his title defense this weekend, then the flyweight champion figures he will fight either Henry Cejudo or Sergio Pettis next.
“With Pettis, he’s on a three-fight win streak,” Johnson said at a UFC 216 media event. “So if he wins this fight, he’s the No. 1 contender in the flyweight division, he’s got four fights in a row I mean, I can’t think of another athlete … who won as many in a row. We’ll see what happens. I think Henry looked real good in his last fight. I feel bad for Wilson (Reis), man. He walked right into the cross, he didn’t do what a southpaw should do, he walked right into the cross. I feel bad for the guy. With Sergio Pettis, I think Sergio Pettis has more of a style that will give Cejudo more of a well-rounded look for me to fight.”
Cejudo and Pettis are set to collide this December at UFC 218, but its position on the fight card has yet to be revealed.
Johnson has already defeated Cejudo before at UFC 197. The flyweight champion earned that victory by first round TKO.
Pettis has never had a shot at any UFC title, but his older brother Anthony is a former UFC Lightweight Champion.
UFC 216 takes place on Saturday, October 7 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
