WWE Officially Recognizes Asuka’s NXT Women’s Title Reign At 523 Days, Triple H Comments

Last night on NXT, Asuka officially relinquished her Women's Title due to the collarbone injury that she suffered at Takeover Brooklyn III in her match with Ember Moon.

WWE is officially recognizing Asuka's reign at 523 days – which extends from the date she first won the title from Bayley at NXT Takeover Dallas on April 1st, 2016 to the date of last night's episode when the title was vacated.

On August 17, Asuka surpassed Rockin' Robin's 502 day-reign to become the longest reigning WWE champion of the modern era, as well as the longest reigning women's champion in the history of the company.

During last night's ceremony, NXT General Manager William Regal stated that he had begun negotiations with main roster GMs Kurt Angle and Daniel Bryan to determine whether Asuka would be called up to RAW of SmackDown Live.

The entire women's roster of NXT came out on the stage to give Asuka a well-deserved round of applause.

Ember Moon came out to the ring for a show of respect and the two rivals shared a hug.

The segment ended with the godfather of NXT, Triple H, entering the ring to present Asuka with roses. Hunter commented on the milestone this morning on Twitter:

As for what's going to happen with the now-vacant NXT Women's Title, Regal said he's got a lot of thinking to do.

Some speculate we might find out Regal's plans at the finals of the Mae Young Classic, which will air Live on the WWE Network next Tuesday after SmackDown. Fightful will have full Live coverage as well as an immediate reaction on a podcast following the crowning of a tournament winner.
