While it may be a while before we find out if the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor pay-per-view will break the all-time buyrate record, the televised prelim card did provide plenty of success.
The televised prelims, which were shown on FOX, averaged 3.220 million viewers, according to TV By The Numbers, which would make it the highest-viewed boxing card on FOX all year long. In the coveted 18-49 demographic, the card had 1.1 rating, which is tops among the four top networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX).
This viewership is leaps and bounds better than the two FOX boxing cards they had in 2017. The February 25 PBC on FOX card, headlined by Deontay Wilder vs. Gerald Washington, averaged 1.768 million viewers. The July 15 PBC on FOX card, headlined by Omar Figueroa vs. Robert Guerrero, averaged 886,000 viewers.
The card was main evented by Yordenis Ugas' unanimous decision win over Thomas Dulorme. The other fight on the card saw Juan Heraldez defeat Jose Miguel Borrego via unanimous decision.
The pay-per-view was also shown in more than 500 theaters in the United States and Fathom Events, which generated $2.6 million in the box office. For that night, the fight scored the third biggest night in theaters behind “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” ($3.9 million) and “Annabelle: Creation” ($2.8 million).
