Top 10 Welterweight Clash At UFC Fight Night Sao Paulo
A battle of top 10 welterweight fighters has been added to UFC Fight Night Sao Paulo as #3 Demian Maia is in action against #8 Colby Covington.
Maia (25-7-0) is going to be competing for the first time since losing a welterweight title fight to Tyron Woodley at UFC 214. Maia has also previously challenged for the UFC Middleweight Champion, losing to then champion Anderson Silva at UFC 112. Maia has only suffered three defeats since moving to the welterweight division in 2012, those losses came to Jake Shields, Tyron Woodley and Rory MacDonald.
Covington (12-1-0) enters the contest on the strength of a four fight winning streak, with those wins coming over Jonathan Meunier, Max Griffin, Bryan Barberena and Dong Hyun Kim. Covington has only suffered a single defeat in his professional MMA career and that came to Warlley Alves at UFC 194. Covington is competing in Brazil for the second time in his UFC tenure, as his last fight in the country took place at UFC Fight Night 56 in November 2014.
UFC Fight Night Sao Paulo takes place on Saturday, October 28 from the Ibirapueroa Gymnasium in Sao Paulo, Brazil with Lyoto Machida and Derek Brunson headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on Fox Sports 1.
