On the April 19 episode of WWE SmackDown, AJ Styles defeated LA Knight to earn a shot at Cody Rhodes’ Undisputed WWE Championship. The broadcast team confirmed that Rhodes would defend the title against Styles at WWE Backlash. WWE later announced that Rhodes and Styles would sign the contract for their match on the April 26 episode on WWE SmackDown.
Rhodes was absent on Friday night, as he was competing at WWE’s live event in London. However, he sent Styles a message in a taped promo.

The April 26 episode of WWE SmackDown will also mark the opening night of the 2024 WWE Draft, and CM Punk is advertised to appear.
