Piper Niven discusses her absence.
Former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Piper Niven has been absent in recent months. She last wrestled at the WWE Main Event taping on February 5. Later in February, Fightful Select reported that Niven was out of action due to a hand injury.
Speaking with Gorilla Position, Piper Niven revealed that she suffered a broken hand in February.
“Who wants to see my gross hand? I broke my hand [laughs]. Training, trying to be a better performer. Obviously, the universe was like, ‘No, no, no, you’re too good. [Laughs] Come on, you gotta give everybody else a chance.’ So yeah, broke my hand, unfortunately, and it still looks gnarly. This happened the seventh of February, so just over two months. It’s getting a little better, so I’ll have this gnarly little bone callous that I can’t wait to backfist people with,” Niven said.
When asked whether she was cleared, Niven noted that she was not. She described how the setback has been beneficial, as she has been focused on working to improve as a performer. Niven stated that she was looking forward to showing everyone what she could do upon her return.
“Not as of just yet, but hopefully soon. Hopefully soon. Honestly, I feel like this was kind of necessary, like I’ve never broken a bone or really had…I’ve been out before, especially with COVID and stuff. But I’ve never had any real injury, and I kind of feel like this was a very necessary learning experience for me. Even though I’ve been injured with a broken bone and rehabbing and everything that comes with that, I have been doing so much work. Inner work, ring work, learning about myself, my profession. Honestly, I think this was a necessary setback to be better as a performer, so I’m very, very excited to show everyone that when I get back,” Niven said.
Niven was then asked whether her return would come with a reset of her character. She noted that she would it would, or at least a better understanding of the character and of herself.
“Yes, I think so. Or maybe a better understanding of the character, a better understanding of myself. Really, I feel like when you are more comfortable and confident in yourself, then it’ll be easily transferable in the ring and for everybody else to see,” Niven said.
As of this writing, there is no word on when Niven will return to WWE programming. Fightful wishes her well in her recovery, and we will provide more information as it becomes available.
