Top Rank Boxing On ESPN Results: First Undisputed Junior Welterweight Champion Crowned


Welcome to Fightful’s live coverage of the historic junior welterweight unification bout between champions Terence Crawford and Julius Indongo. The winner of the fight will become the first person in the history of boxing’s junior welterweight division to hold all four major world titles (WBA, WBC, WBO, IBF) simultaneously. Here’s the main televised card (ESPN 10 p.m. ET):

  • Terence Crawford defeated Julius Indongo, KO, round 3 (1:38) to become the Undisputed WBA, WBC, WBO, IBF Junior Welterweight champion
  • Oleksandr Gvozdyk defeated Craig Baker, TKO, round 6 (2:04) to retain the NABO and NABF Light Heavyweight Title

MAIN CARD

Shakur Stevenson vs. David Paz: Featherweight Bout

Round 1: Paz starts off with a few body hooks that miss the mark. Stevenson tags Paz with a couple of jabs. Stevenson avoids an overhead right and hits another jab. Stevenson hits a couple of 1-2 combos to Paz’s body. Stevenson is still using the jab to find his range early on the fight. Paz misses once more with the right. Stevenson keeps hitting Paz with tags, but neither fighter is doing much damage.

Round 2: Paz tries to land a few hooks, but doesn’t connect much. Stevenson lands a hard right body hook. Stevenson lands a left jab. Stevenson again goes to the body with the left hand. Paz tries to press forward, but Stevenson gets out of trouble. Stevenson connects with numerous hard shots to the body. Stevenson avoids a left hook and counters with another body shot.

Round 3: Paz starts the round off with a few lunging jabs. Stevenson then tries to throw a few jabs of his own. Stevenson connects with the right hand to Paz’s body. Paz is on the defensive as Stevenson keeps using a lot of jabs. One of those jabs takes Paz’s mouthpiece out of the ring. Not much action in the final minute, but it’s all Stevenson so far.

Round 4: Both men exchange punches to start off and Stevenson got the better of the exchange. Paz is constantly getting tagged with the jab and is not able to land his body shots. Stevenson connects with the jab followed by a strong left hand. Paz presses forward, but Stevenson does not try to counter with an uppercut.

Round 5: Stevenson connects with a jab then a hard counterpunch. Paz’s mouthpiece falls off again and the referee is not happy. Stevenson connects with yet another hard body shot, but isn’t following up. Stevenson continues to work the body for half a minute. Stevenson connects with a good counter left hook to Paz’s jaw. Stevenson knocks down Paz with a good left hand.

Round 6: Stevenson connects with two jabs, but Paz responds with a clean left ja of his own. Stevenson connects a hard right hand to Paz’s jaw. Stevenson unleashes a series of punches to Paz. Stevenson lands yet another left hand to Paz. The rest of the round goes as the entire fight has went: Stevenson overpowering Paz, who’s looked sluggish by comparison.

Oleksandr Gvozdyk vs. Craig Baker: NABO and NABF Light Heavyweight Title Bout

Round 1: The fight starts off with Gvozdyk landing a body jab. Gvozdyk hits two jabs upstairs and Baker lands a counter left hand. Gvozdyk lands the sharp jabs at Baker’s head. Baker responds by landing a few hooks to Gvozdyk’s body. Both men trade jabs left and right, but Gvozdyk is getting the better of the exchanges. Gvozdyk starts throwing more combos as the round ends.

Round 2: Gvozdyk lands a few jabs to Baker’s head. Baker goes upstairs with some short hooks and uppercuts, but Gvozdyk counters with a lead right hand. Gvozdyk throws a weak three-punch combo, followed by several hard shots to Baker’s head. Baker lands another good shot to Gvozdyk, but Gvozdyk lands a body jab after getting hit. Gvozdyk ends the round with a solid combo to Baker.

Round 3: Gvozdyk lands a couple of solid uppercuts to Baker, but Baker seems unfazed. Gvozdyk lands a hard lead right jab to Baker’s jaw. Baker is trying to press forward and takes a chance by throwing a wild right hand, but misses. Gvozdyk connects with several jabs to end the round.

Round 4: Gvozdyk starts with a few uppercuts, but isn’t really doing a ton of damage. Gvozdyk connects with the left jab followed by a right jab. Baker’s left hook doesn’t land completely. Baker is fighting hard to make it a competitive fight, but at this point, there is not a lot of good action from either side.

Round 5: The two fighters exchange several jabs. Gvozdyk ducks and avoids Baker’s left hook. Gvozdyk is moving back and all over the ring throwing the occasional jab. Gvozdyk throws a couple of uppercuts that don’t connect fully to Baker. The round ends with not much action.

Round 6: Baker presses forward with a few jabs, but Gvozdyk isn’t doing a whole lot more to win the fight convincingly. Gvozdyk throws a few weak hooks, but then connects with a hard right hand. Gvozdyk’s next punch splits through Baker’s guard and is knocked down. Gvozdyk comes back to attack Baker hard in the corner and the referee stops the fight. Gvozdyk is your winner.

Terence Crawford (c) vs. Julius Indongo (c): Undisputed WBA, WBC, WBO, IBF Junior Welterweight Title Bout

Round 1: Crawford and Indongo throw a couple jabs to start the round and Crawford lands a swift left hook to Indongo. Crawford throws three punches and Indongo lands a counter right hand. Indongo misses a lot of punches as Crawford is moving around flawlessly in the ring. Crawford connects with a lead left and Indongo goes to the body for a quick second.

Round 2: Crawford throws a couple of jabs that connect, but Indongo is still not landing much on his punches. Crawford blocks a left jab. Both men throw sweeping left hands at each other, trying to go for the early knockout. Crawford knocks down Indongo late in the round and Crawford is back on the offensive. Indongo tries to get back to attack as the round ends.

Round 3: Indongo misses with the sweeping left hand, but Crawford’s jab doesn’t miss the mark. Indongo connects with an uppercut then tries to have his jab split Crawford’s guard. Crawford knocks out Indongo and that’s all she wrote. Crawford is boxing’s first ever undisputed junior welterweight champion.
