CM Punk: I Wanted To Show Drew McIntyre That What’s On The Internet Is Not Important, It’s What’s In The Building
CM Punk comments on what went down at WrestleMania XL.
Drew McIntyre shelved CM Punk at WWE Royal Rumble, hitting a Future Shock DDT that caused Punk to suffer a torn tricep. Since that moment, McIntyre has harrassed Punk online and on-screen.
At WrestleMania XL, Punk got some revenge, attacking McIntyre and setting him up for Damian Priest to cash in his Money in the Bank contract and win the WWE World Heavyweight Title, which McIntyre had just won from Seth Rollins.
“I wanted to make Drew interesting. I wanted to show him that what’s important isn’t on the internet. What’s important is inside the building. Those people, after his two matches. Yes, he had two. He won one. He lost the more important one. They were chanting ‘CM Punk,'” said Punk on ESPN.
Punk was then asked to cut a promo on McIntyre.
“Drew McIntyre prayed for me to be injured. He prayed for it to happen. He asked for help. He looked above and said, ‘God, please, take CM Punk out so I can main event WrestleMania 40.’ I don’t pray for things to happen. I make them happen. I’m going to keep this up until Drew loses his mind. This is my house. I came back here to prove it. Everybody is worried about who I was, who I am now. You should worry about who I’m becoming,” he stated.
Punk removed his arm brace and attacked McIntyre with it at WrestleMania XL.
It is unknown when Punk will be cleared to return to the ring.
