UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor and retired boxer Paulie Malignaggi have been seeing their feud escalate since the infamous photo was released a short time back.
Despite the growing hatred between the two, the Irishman’s coach in John Kavanagh says he is grateful for the time Malignaggi gave during the sparring sessions.
“I haven’t actually seen anything. You know, you’re scrolling through the news and I can see he’s done quite a few interviews, but I’ve genuinely not watched one. The only thing I would say is I was very grateful to have him here. We got two great spars out of him,” Kavanagh said to MMA Fighting.
Malignaggi hasn’t been very compliment towards McGregor going on Twitter rants against the fighter and saying he “whimpers like a school girl” when getting hit with body shots.
The retired boxer only sparred twice with McGregor, which is what Kavanagh was expecting anyway.
“To be honest, two good spars out of him was kind of what I was expecting anyway. The fact that it went sour and he’s clearly unhappy, what comment can I make to that? That’s up to him,” says Kavanagh.
Conor McGregor versus Floyd Mayweather takes place on Saturday, August 26 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
