WWE UK Champion Pete Dunne Injured, Misses Progress NYC Show Last Night
WWE's United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne has been hit with the injury bug.
Dunne was set to compete on the card for Progress’ shows in New York and Boston this weekend. Dunne suffered a cut which required 11 stitches while working a Battle Pro wrestling show in Brooklyn, New York on Friday. The laceration, which is above his left eye and happened during what was described as “an errant belt spot” in his match with Darius Carter, is serious enough that he is not medically cleared to work the two Progress shows.
PWInsider reported that WWE was considering pulling Dunne from the weekend shows. Progress co-owner Jim Smallman posted a short video, which can be seen below, announcing the injury and Dunne not wrestling from the shows. Smallman did say Dunne would still appear in the shows, but not in a wrestling capacity.
Dunne was supposed to defend his title against Jack Gallagher, a member of WWE's 205 Live Roster, on the New York show.
Dunne did appear at the event and he and Gallagher had a fun back and forth in-ring promo:
Gallagher then went on to defeat Zack Gibson.
Dunne won the WWE UK Championship at NXT TakeOver: Chicago after beating former champion, Tyler Bate.
WWE UK wrestlers seldom appeared on WWE television since the UK Tournament back in January, mainly competing on NXT.
