Garrett Borden Says Idea For Appearance In Sting’s Last Match Was First Broached In October 2022

Garrett Borden talks being part of his father’s last match.

Sting’s last match at AEW Revolution was a celebration of his career that lasted nearly 40 years. Sting teamed with Darby Allin and got his sons involved as Garrett dressed as Surger Sting while Steven donned the Wolfpack Sting facepaint and gear.

Speaking to Jeremy Lambert & Joel Pearl on In The Weeds, Garrett was asked when the idea came about for he and his brother to be involved in their dad’s last match.

“Actually happening, 100% sure, was early January. We had first talked about it in October 2022 where he was like, ‘what do you think about this?’ We really didn’t talk about it too much until the retirement and once that was officially announced. I had about seven and a half weeks to get ready, come up with all the plans and all that stuff,” he said.

Sting announced his last match would take place at AEW Revolution in October 2023.

Asked when it was decided that he would be Surfer Sting, Garrett said, “We never talked about it, my brother or my dad. It was just assumed, ‘Garrett is Surfer Sting, Steven is some variation of Crow Sting.’ The reason is, we would do comparisons and people always told us we look like our dad. I always, even my dad would say, ‘You look so much like Surfer.’ My brother had hair [past his shoulders] so naturally, he looked like Crow Sting. It was a natural decision for us to do that.”

Steven previously revealed that he was going to be Crow Sting, but Darby Allin suggested to “mix it up.”
