Sammy Guevara’s AEW Suspension, Details Behind It
An All Elite Wrestler has faced a suspension, and it isn’t their first.
Fightful Select has learned that All Elite Wrestling mainstay Sammy Guevara is now serving a suspension in connection to the February 14 match he had against Jeff Hardy. During the match, Jeff Hardy sustained an injury on a shooting star press from Guevara, and concussion protocol was not followed, which resulted in Sammy Guevara hitting his finisher on Hardy, which we’re told shouldn’t have happened.
We haven’t been given specifics on how long the suspension is, or additional details. Guevara did end up working a No DQ match with Powerhouse Hobbs after the Hardy match. There were some that thought Guevara’s lack of selling after the Hobbs match could have contributed to the suspension, but we were told it was related to the Hardy match.
For those asking about the referee’s role, we haven’t heard of any disciplinary action in that regard as of yet.
There is no timetable for Hardy’s return, or Guevara’s suspension to end.
Guevara has been suspended in the past, including for offensive comments made prior to his AEW run, and had some time off in conjunction with a fight with Andrade, though we haven’t been told that was a formal suspension.
We’ve reached out to Sammy for comment, which wasn’t immediately returned.
