Three Junior Middleweight Title Fights Agree To Deals
The junior middleweight title scene is about to become very busy potentially very soon.
Junior middleweight world champions Jermell Charlo (WBC), Erislandy Lara (WBA) and Jarrett Hurd (IBF) have reportedly agreed to fights with Erickson Lubin, Terrell Gausha and Austin Trout, respectively.
According to RingTV.com, the Charlo vs. Lubin fight has caught the interest of Showtime, but there is no date, venue or broadcast home for any of the three world title fights. It’s unclear whether or not that fight would headline its own Showtime card or if Showtime would simply slot the fight in the undercard of an already existing card.
The only governing body to not have a world champion at 154 pounds is the WBO, but that will be fixed soon when Miguel Cotto and Yoshihiro Kamegai face each other on August 26 for the vacant title.
Charlo won the title back in 2016 and is coming off his first title defense when he knocked out Charles Hatley back in April.
Lara, who is also the IBO champion, won the WBA title back in 2014 and has defended that title four times. Lara last fought in January when he knocked out former world champion Yuri Foreman.
Hurd won the vacant IBF title on the Deontay Wilder vs. Gerald Washington undercard back in February when he stopped Tony Harrison in the ninth round of their fight. All three champions are ranked in the top four of Fightful’s boxing junior middleweight rankings.
