JJ Gale Reflects On Finding Out At The Last Minute He Would Be Wrestling Will Ospreay
JJ Gale looks back on finding out he would be wrestling Will Ospreay at the last minute.
JJ Gale reflects on getting the chance to share the ring with one of the very best in the world.
Back in 2020, at a RevPro show during the Covid-19 Pandemic, a young JJ Gale had the opportunity to work with Will Ospreay in a singles match. While it was not a long match by any means, it was at that point, the biggest matchup of Gale’s career.
While speaking to Fightful’s Corey Brennan in a recent interview, Gale would look back on his match with The Aerial Assasin, noting that he found out about the match at the last minute.
“Yeah, huge. I mean, when I think back to that now, it’s a fond memory because it’s one of the very best, in my opinion, if not the best in the world. It was just as he was really starting to excel. I think at that point, for me, I’m so early on in my career, I’m still doing the contender stuff in Rev Pro. I don’t really have a personality above just trying to prove myself and being, you know, a contender. It was a huge opportunity. It’s something that happened last minute. I was going into that show and that taping, thinking I was wrestling my mate Kurtis. I was meant to be wrestling Kyle Fletcher. He got a concussion wrestling the night before I was told, well, Kurtis messaged me. He said, ‘Hey, um, It’s me and you today, I think.’ I was like, oh, cool. First time ever, you know, good mate of mine. This is going to be a fun match. I get there and then I’m smartened up and I’m wrestling Will Ospreay. And I’m like, oh, OK, now it’s time to deliver. So super nervous when in there. I think I held my own. But I mean, I’m so happy for Will to go off to AEW and do what he’s doing. But there’s a little part of me that kept thinking, God, I want to run this back because each month by month, year by year, I know I’m getting better. I know that that match is going to be so much more than it was in front of absolutely no one in the training school, during a pandemic but yeah, big moment and hopefully it will get run back one day somewhere down the road.”
Ospreay recently began his full time run with All Elite Wrestling at AEW Revolution, facing off with Konosuke Takeshita in singles action. Following the match, Ospreay stated he wanted to win world titles, retire Billy Gunn and earn a Nando’s sponsorship. You can read more about that here.
Elsewhere in Gale’s interview with Fightful, he discussed his match with Luke Jacobs at RevPro High Stakes. You can read more about that here.
