Tony Schiavone explains why Sting’s retirement match will be an emotional occasion for him.

Sting’s legendary career will conclude at AEW Revolution. In his last match, Sting and Darby Allin will defend the AEW World Tag Team Championship against Matthew and Nicholas Jackson. Throughout Sting’s time in AEW, he has worked alongside Tony Schiavone. Schiavone has been a part of Sting’s career dating back to the 1980s.

Speaking on What Happened When, Sting’s last match came up in the conversation, and co-host Conrad Thompson noted that it would be an emotional night.

“Yeah, in many ways, it’s going to be. Sting’s family’s going to be there. He’s invited a couple of his friends to be there. So it is. It’s gonna be an emotional night for me, and it’s gonna be an emotional night for Ric Flair, who’s gonna be there as well, and the fact that, you think about Sting and Flair, Clash of the Champions, I was there to call it, and how much the Greensboro Coliseum means to me as a wrestling fan, that was my go-to place during all my fandom back in the 70s. It means a lot to me. So with that in mind, I really personally look forward to that night,” Schiavone said.

Schiavone went on to note that he was honored to be a part of Sting’s career. He looked back on working with Sting, Ric Flair, and other legends in the 1980s and stated that he missed that era.

“I’m so honored to be a part of Sting’s career, Flair’s career, and many wrestlers’ careers. Arn, Tully, Barry Windham, Midnight Express, Jim Cornette, all of that. You see some photos of them, there I am, holding the mic. It was a wonderful time. It was a good time, and I miss it,” Schiavone said.

Kevin Nash recently said that Sting asked him to be at his last match, but he was unable to be there. Check out his comments here.
