Over the course of the past few months, Anita Vaughan and Debbie Keitel have struck up a partnership that has stretched across both the Irish and UK scenes. Known as The Gals, the team have faced off with some top names since aligning with one another and despite some conflicting feelings about the world of cinema, Keitel has been incredibly happy to work with Anita.
While speaking to Corey Brennan of Fightful in a recent interview, Keitel would discuss working with Vaughan, noting that she is amazing to work with.
“She’s amazing to work with. We are complete opposites, like complete opposites. But then again, me and Lyra were as well. But it’s so funny because like with AV, I’ll quote a movie or I’ll do a bit from a movie and she’s just like, she just hasn’t a clue what I’m talking about. She doesn’t know what I’m referencing. Genuinely, the only movie she’s seen is Finding Nemo. I made her watch, I love Adam Sandler, I made her watch Big Daddy and she sat there and just, it was like, I don’t know, it was like she was watching a documentary on paint drying. It was no reaction, looking at her phone, no interest and then i made her watch Hocus Pocus. Now I guarantee she can’t tell you anything that happened in that movie, but her eyes were open and she was looking at a screen, but i guarantee she couldn’t tell you what was going on. But yeah, so i’m just going to teach her the way, you know, I’m going to show her the way, introduce her to some films. Even, recently we put up something on twitter and people were copying our picture onto movies and she was like, I don’t know what that is. I don’t know who that is. I don’t know what that’s about. I don’t know what, she didn’t get any of the references. I was sitting at home looking at my phone with tears in my eyes, looking at some of the stuff and she just had no concept of what, what any of it was but with AV like it’s so funny because like she was she was training in a separate school and she was working for different promotions that she was coming up in and then she started training at Fight Factory and we started working really closely together and I love tag team wrestling.”
Debbie continued, noting that she she is passionate about tag team wrestling and values having someone like Anita to bounce off of.
“I’m really passionate about tag team wrestling and I love having someone to bounce off of, whether it just be for promo or, you know, whatever it is, I love bouncing off someone. I was starting to pick things up again and I kind of pitched the idea to her, what if we, what if we, joined forces, you know, what if we did something? She was all for it but sometimes I think she’s like not sure about that. Like when I made her dress up as Patsy Stowe from Absolutely Fabulous, she had never seen it. I gave her the jacket and I was like, ‘just put that on’. She was like ‘I don’t know how to wear this.’ I was like, ‘just stand really tall and kind of bent over and have a cigarette or whatever’.. She ended up going out, smashing it. She did a little crash course on Instagram Reels on Patsy Stone and AFAB. But, yeah, we’re definitely opposites, but we bring out a lot of humour in each other. So, yeah, she’s really, really fun to work with and I’m enjoying it, like, a lot.”
Keitel has recently returned to the UK circuit, making her debut in North Wrestling, noting that she wants to make the United Kingdom her home in 2024 inside the ring.
Elsewhere in the same interview, Debbie reflected on her partnership with Lyra Valkyria as The Woke Queens. You can read more here.
