Anthony Bowens: To Have Sting’s Respect And Approval Is A Dream Come True

Anthony Bowens discusses how Sting helped him fall in love with wrestling and what it means to have his respect.

Anthony Bowens talks about how Sting helped make him fall in love with professional wrestling.

Anthony Bowens has been a part of AEW for several years now, holding both the AEW Tag Team Titles and currently, the AEW Trios Titles alongside Max Caster and Billy Gunn.

While speaking to Compas on The Beat recently, Bowens was asked when he fell in love with pro wrestling, with Bowens citing seeing Sting on TV prior to Starrcade 1997.

“I saw Sting on TV. They were doing commercials for Starrcade 97′, which is him versus Hulk Hogan. I was like, ‘who’s this guy with the face paint?’ He’s in this warehouse and he’s got this baseball bat. Like, so cool and then I watched the match and I was hooked ever since.  I was one of the typical fans, you know, channel flipping going back and forth to each company back then and it just couldn’t get out of my system. Sting is the absolute man and to have somebody like that who I grew up idolizing, one, have him as a coworker, two, to have his respect and approval of my work is just, it’s a dream come true. I had a little full circle moment with him because that show, Starrcade 97, was in Washington, D.C., and on my wrestling anniversary in Washington DC, we main evented Dynamite against Sting  and it was just, it was so cool.”

Bowens, along with Caster and Gunn, have recently aligned with Bullet Club Gold, becoming the Bang Bang Scissor Gang.

On the February 7th edition of AEW Dynamite, Sting and Darby Allin captured the AEW World Tag Titles for the first time. You can read more here.
