DIY express their confidence after their win on WWE Raw as they continue to target the gold.
On the February 5 episode of WWE Raw, DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa) defeated Imperium (Giovanni Vinci and Ludwig Kaiser), the New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods), and the Creed Brothers (Brutus and Julius Creed).
With the win, they advanced to the February 9 episode of WWE SmackDown, where they will face Tyler Bate and Pete Dunne. The winner of that match will challenge the Judgment Day (Finn Balor and Damian Priest) for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship at WWE Elimination Chamber.
In a WWE Raw Exclusive, Gargano and Ciampa discussed their victory.
Tommaso Ciampa: Creeds had our numbers the first two times. Tough, big boys.
Johnny Gargano: The Creed Brothers, freak athletes. They’re everything we’re not. What happened?
TC: New Day rocks. Kofi and I have known each other 18 years. This was the first time I ever shared a WWE ring with him, and that meant the world to me. He’s just as good as advertised, as well as Woods.
JG: One of the most decorated tag teams in WWE history, if not the most decorated tag team. So DIY, we’re about stamping our legacy. We said at the very beginning, our New Year’s resolution was to be WWE Tag Team Champions.
TC: We ain’t flinching l. We know what tonight meant, and we know what waits for us. We know Pete Dunne very well. We know Tyler Bate very well. We can’t wait to show Charlotte, to show SmackDown what DIY is all about, to show the world. Because this, if people talk about the good old days of NXT Black and Gold, the good old days of NXT UK, they’re gonna get the best days when DIY steps in the ring with Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate.
JG: We’re gonna take over SmackDown. I think we’re gonna take over SmackDown.
Gargano and Ciampa were then asked to describe what their keys to success were ahead of their match on WWE SmackDown. Gargano noted that they could reach a different level following their previous loss to the Judgment Day. Ciampa then expressed his belief that DIY is the best tag team on the planet.
Gargano: We lost to Judgment Day. We lost, but I think that gives us an opportunity to go into a different level. We know Pete Dunne, we know Tyler Bate. They’re just like us. I think their story is very similar to ours. so Friday night, we’re gonna scratch, claw, and we are going to fight for that opportunity in Perth. We want it. We want it bad. I know they too do.
Ciampa: This is about the WWE Tag Team Titles. They’ve been held hostage for a very long time. Us two, Pete and Tyler, are four of the hungriest guys in this business. Friday night, friendship aside, may the best tag team win. I’m telling everybody right now, the best tag team in the world today is DIY.
Bate and Dunne previously earned their spot in the number one contender’s match by defeating the LWO (Joaquin Wilde and Cruz Del Toro), Legado del Fantasma (Angel and Berto), and Pretty Deadly (Elton Prince and Kit Wilson) on the February 2 episode of WWE SmackDown.
