Ricky Starks On AEW’s Team Effort: If You Don’t Follow The Same Goal, Maybe This Isn’t The Place For You

Ricky Starks praises AEW as being driven by a team effort.

Despite getting his start in wrestling well before the creation of AEW, Ricky Starks considers himself to be an AEW homegrown talent. Starks has seen many of the changes in AEW come firsthand and even had his direction shifted as a direct result of some of those changes.

During a recent interview with Forbes, Starks reflected on some of the challenges of trying to grow a roster with a finite number of hours on television.

“It’s always gonna be challenging because you only have so much TV time allotted and you have a growing number of people on the roster, so there’s gonna be challenges there,” Starks explained. “It’s really about who stands out and who steps up to the plate when given the chance.”

Ultimately, Ricky Starks’ strategy is to simply focus on controlling what he can and rolling with the punches.

“There are things that are out of my control that I don’t have an answer for…and that’s just how it is,” Starks said. “You just have to deal with it. I can only control as much as I can control.”

Starks says that AEW is a team effort with a roster that is all collectively working toward the same goal. His advice to those who can’t get on board with that would be to consider whether or not AEW is for them.

“It’s a team effort,” Starks said. “We’re all working for the same goal, and if you don’t follow the same goal, maybe this isn’t the place for you.”

Ricky Starks was part of Sting’s first match in AEW. Now, he is giving Sting what may very well be his final championship opportunity as Sting teams with Darby Allin to challenge Ricky Starks & Big Bill for the AEW World Tag Team Titles on the February 7 episode of AEW Dynamite. Learn more here.
