Shelton Benjamin Says Kurt Angle Was The Best From A Technical Standpoint, Shawn Michaels Best At Psychology
Shelton Benjamin explains why Shawn Michaels and Kurt Angle are the best wrestlers from different perspectives.
Shelton Benjamin was fortunate enough to sit under the learning tree of Kurt Angle during his early days in WWE. As Shelton’s status in the company grew, he was fortunate enough to step in the ring with Shawn Michaels for some top-tier television matches.
Appearing on The Kurt Angle Show, Benjamin explains why he believes Kurt Angle is the best technical wrestler but Shawn Michaels is the best wrestler from a psychological standpoint.
“Here’s the thing: I can do what we call compartmentalizing. From a technical standpoint, I don’t think there is anyone on the planet better than Kurt. To me, to this day, I’m not just saying this just because I’m on your podcast, I will say this anywhere. For me, the greatest wrestling match I’ve ever seen was [Kurt] vs. Benoit at Royal Rumble. I watched that match and I was like, ‘those are the kind of matches I want to have.’ The athleticism, the explosiveness, the ferocity, the intensity, that was everything that I wish I accomplished. To me, that’s the greatest wrestling match I ever witnessed, Firsthand,” said Benjamin. “That being said, psychology-wise, Shawn is going to take the top spot there. You guys have your number-one slot; they’re just in different categories.”
Benjamin, in the past, spoke to Fightful about his unique Royal Rumble history with Shawn Michaels. Read his comments here.
