Demian Maia Promises To Keep Going After UFC 214 Loss
Demian Maia suffered a lopsided decision loss in his attempt to capture the UFC Welterweight Title from Tyron Woodley at UFC 214.
Despite the setback, the Brazilian submission artist is promising his fans that he is going to keep on going.
“Unfortunately for the guys in my division, I will keep going,” Maia said after the event. “I have more energy to burn. I want to keep going a little bit more. I don’t know. Let’s see what happens – they’re thinking about opening 165-, 175-(pound divisions). Let’s see. I never give up. I came to this fight on five weeks’ notice, and I leave this fight with my head up.”
It was the second time he failed to capture gold in the UFC, as the submission artist came up short against the UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva several years back.
Even though he had a shorter training camp for the title fight, the Brazilian will make no excuses for his defeat.
“Of course, if you think about probabilities, I think I would increase my probabilities to win the fight if I had more time,” Maia said. “A longer camp. But I don’t want to complain. That was my chance and I accepted the chance. I came here. And I did what I needed to do.”
Although Maia said he plans on fighting again, the fighter did not reveal when his next fight may take place.
