Jonathan Coachman: Wrestling Is Not About Wins; I Could’ve Been World Champion If Vince McMahon Wanted
Jonathan Coachman weighs in on HOOK, Jinder Mahal, Tony Khan, and wins and losses in the pre-determined realm of pro wrestling.
Earlier this week on Twitter, Tony Khan questioned Jinder Mahal’s credibility as a challenger for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, citing his less-than-stellar win-loss record over the last year.
The discourse would lead to Mahal trending on social media, Mahal asking who HOOK is, back-and-forth digs between Tony Khan and Eric Bischoff, and more.
Now, former WWE broadcaster Jonathan Coachman has weighed in on the controversy, replying to a tweet from Khan and saying that wrestling is not about wins and losses, and if Vince McMahon wanted to, Coach could have been the WWE Champion.
We also used to get amused at fans who counted wins like wrestlers “earned” them. Hell if Vince wanted I could have been world champion. But the storyline didn’t support it. While Coach participated in many matches, the closest he ever came to winning a championship was being one of the names that fans could have voted for to challenge Chris Jericho for the WWE Intercontinental Championship at WWE Taboo Tuesday 2004. Coach, of course, did not win the voting. Sheldon Benjamin did and he subsequently won his first WWE Intercontinental Championship.
