Tyron Woodley Retains UFC Welterweight Title At UFC 214, Crowd Trolls (Video)

Tyron Woodley is approaching some of the greats, as he made his third successful UFC Welterweight Title defense over Demian Maia at UFC 214.

Woodley was able to stifle Maia's numerous takedown attempts throughout the fight on his way to a one-sided but somewhat inactive victory in Los Angeles. The 39-year old Maia was never able to take the Champion down, and was peppered with punches over five rounds.

During the fight, the crowd got bored and restless, turned their phone lights on and began waving them as if they were at a concert.

Round Five: The round begins with Maia instantly looking for the takedown against Woodley, Woodley starts popping Maia with a few rights. Woodley then pops Maia with a two punch combination, Maia nails Woodley with a few lefts. Maia grabs a hold of Woodley as the round ends.

Fightful scores the round 10-9 for Woodley (Final Score: 50-45 for Woodley)

Official Result: Tyron Woodley def. #1 Demian Maia by unanimous decision (50-45, 49-46, 49-46) to retain the UFC Welterweight Title

Woodley capped off one of the most successful years in the history of the Welterweight division, as he defeated Maia, Stephen Thompson and Robbie Lawler, in addition to defending his title in a draw against Thompson. Woodley will attempt to tie Pat Miletich with four consecutive successful title defenses — third behind Matt Hughes (5) and Georges St-Pierre (9). After the fight, Woodley called out GSP for UFC 217 at Madison Square Garden in November.
