David Finlay: My Match At Wrestle Kingdom 18 Is My Opportunity To Make My Own History

David Finlay wants to make history by defeating Will Ospreay and Jon Moxley.

The three stars are set to clash in a three way match for the brand-new IWGP Global Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 18.

This match is highly anticipated by many fans, as it could be Will Ospreay’s last time competing at a Wrestle Kingdom event.

While chatting with Sports Illustrated for a new interview, Finlay said that he has always had big boots to fill before noting that the bout as Wrestle Kingdom is his chance to make his own legacy.

“Some people expected me to be my father. Or they questioned why I wasn’t like Bullet Club leaders from the past. I’ve always had big boots to fill. This is my opportunity to make my own history. It’s the biggest match of my career. They’re both mega-stars. Moxley transcends wrestling. He had an incredible time in WWE, and he’s a cornerstone of AEW. Ospreay had an incredible year, which is something we seem to say every year. I’m going to be in the ring with two big stars, but this is my time.”

Finlay then criticized Moxley for only coming to Japan for a cup of coffee, despite saying that he loves the country. Finlay also criticized Ospreay for making similar comments, as he is set to leave the company soon to wrestle for AEW on a full-time basis.

“I’ve been a constant for the past nine years. Mox is coming for a cup of coffee. Ospreay is leaving soon [to wrestle for AEW]. They say they love Japan and they say it’s so hard to leave, then they dry their tears with first-class tickets home.”

Ospreay and Moxley recently agreed to double team Finlay during the three way match at Wrestle Kingdom 18. Learn more here.
