Cody Rhodes, Rhea Ripley, MJF, CM Punk, More Named As Winners In The 2023 ESPN Wrestling Awards
Big names win big awards in the 2023 ESPN pro wrestling awards.
The sports promotion revealed the award winners in an article on December 26, 2023.
First up is Rhea Ripley, who was awarded the Female Wrestler Of The Year award. Ripley held the WWE Women’s World Championship throughout the majority of the year after besting Charlotte for the belt at WrestleMania 39.
Cody Rhodes took home the crown for Male Wrestler Of The Year. Like Ripley, Rhodes also won a Royal Rumble match in January, which led to him clashing with Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 39. Although Rhodes lost to Reigns at the event, ‘The American Nightmare’ picked up big wins over the likes of Brock Lesnar and Shinsuke Nakamura throughout the year while also feuding with The Judgment Day.
FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) were named the Tag Team Of The Year. The duo held the AEW World Tag Team Titles throughout the middle portion of 2023 and picked up wins over the likes of The Young Bucks, Adam Cole/MJF, and Bullet Club Gold.
CM Punk was awarded with the Debut Of The Year award, as the ‘Best In The World’ made his shocking return to WWE at Survivor Series in November.
The Breakthrough Wrestler Of The Year award went to LA Knight. The star rose through the ranks and became one of the most popular wrestlers in WWE throughout 2023.
AEW World Champion MJF, who is widely regarded as the best talker in the business, was named as Promo Artist Of The Year.
The Match Of The Year award was awarded to two matches with the same wrestlers, as Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay’s bouts from Wrestle Kingdom 17 and Forbidden Door both took home the win.
WrestleMania 39, which was one of the most succuessful WrestleMania events of all time, won the Best PPV Event Of The Year award.
The awards concluded with the Best Storyline Of The Year award, which was awarded to The Bloodline for their saga that took many twists and turns throughout 2023.
